IFO++ : IT Exhibition by UCSC

It is less visible that Sri Lanka has a history of more than 25 years in computing. University of Colombo and UCSC (University of Colombo School of Computing) holds the pride of being the pioneer in Computer Science/ICT education in the country - a legacy bestowed upon us by the father of Sri Lankan Information Technology and the founder of UCSC, late Professor V. K. Samaranayake.

Celebrating this unique achievement; Silver jubilee of Computer Science education at University of Colombo, we (Students and the Staff of UCSC) proudly presents the IFO++ (Ideas : Free and Open) as an exhibition completely dedicated to IT and Computer Science conducted by a Sri Lankan university. This is only the main event of the activity series carried throughout the year of celebration.

With the purpose of improving IT awareness in the country (specially in the younger generation), UCSC will present modern technologies along with some practical sessions about effective use of IT in day-to-day life. Without any limitations; anyone in any age, any academic discipline will find this as a valuable opportunity which will help them to stay updated with the latest technical innovations in the world.

As the students who enjoy the benefit of free education, and considering the effort put behind us by the local tax payers, we realize our responsibility to help the country even as students. With having those responsibilities in mind, we will focus on helping our future generations. Therefore IFO++ will not only be an exhibition, but it’ll be a complete, well-structured program for improve the IT competency in our local school students. IFO++ contains a separate ICT educational zone, along with the ICT seminar series organized to support O/L and A/L students for their examinations.

UCSC undergraduates and graduates will find this opportunity to expose their innovative ideas to the country as well as the IT industry. Moreover the UCSC, as one of supreme university research communities in Sri Lanka, provides internationally recognized and awarded research projects every year. IFO++ will bring some of those exquisite projects in to one place, allowing the public to experience the Sri Lankan expertise on a wider area of Computer Science and Information and Communication Technology disciplines.

IFO++ will enable you to have a tour through the history of computing. You will have the chance to learn about the early computers as well as the evolution of computing by visiting our Computer Museum at the exhibition premises.

If you find technical exhibitions a little boring, here at IFO++ we make a difference. We have number of programs dedicated for your entertainment!

Come and visit us on 28th to 30th October (9.00 am – 8.00 pm) at University of Colombo (UCSC) premises.
